Complexity

My surroundings are familiar but not fully comforting. My visit is welcomed but not understood. My soul seeks calm but is restless. Life is complex.

I watch the moon reflect off plains of snow. I am staggered by the deafening silence of the winter night. Drained of my last ounce of energy by my own strength. I try to breathe deep but the stark cold stops me short. Enlivened by nature and enslaved by mind, I find myself profoundly misunderstood by all, including me. And so begins an epic battle, for possession of my own soul, and to find a place to rest it. As I watch the snow in lunar illumination give itself into the waiting water, I feel as close to home as anyplace can make me. So strange to have a house to sleep in yet still be homeless. And yet if all of this sounds as though all hope is lost, it would be a lie. For hope's flames rage inside me.

I leave you tonight with what has to be one of the quotes which I most often refernce:

There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.
-Nelson Mandela-
